I’m built model rockets as a kid but I would like to find out about joining Nar or tripoli. Wondering what the difference is and interested in joining Hara. Just wondering what steps do i need to complete first so that I could get back into the hobby I loved as a kid. Would like to share interest with my grandchildren. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Again!!!!
Hi Bobby. Sorry for taking so long ti answer this. NAR and TRA are a lot a like, but there is one fundamental difference. TRA permits the use of “experimental” motors. That is to say, you can fly motors that are non-commercially manufactured (home built). They have similar safety codes and recognize each others certification levels. The two groups are organized differently. NAR involves it self more with STEM education opportunities.
But, to get back into the hobby, you don’t have to be in either organization unless you want to start flight high power rockets (H class motors and up). I do recommend that you join a club to more fully take advantage of the resource they have to offer.
to the Huntsville Area Rocketry Association’s website, your launch pad into amateur & experimental rocketry. Please feel free to look around. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to holler at us.
